383 or 400

posted in: dawg house garage, news on June 20, 2008 at 01:25 PM

Hey Everyone!!!
I’m looking for some advice. I’ve been doing some looking on the internet for some information on the benefits to building a 383 compared to a 400 and/or vice versa. I currently have a 400 out of a ‘78 suburban in my Camaro and can’t decide whether to build that or go after a 383. I’ve seen some CRAZY numbers on the 383 lately (hp/torque) but nothing on the 400. Can anybody help me????
Thanks!!!
Dawg

Dawg, I have a LT1 383 in my 96 Impala, Check out a website Golen Engines – http://www.golenengineservice.com/, I am pushing 400 hp/464, not real big numbers but they have other options. I am not familiar with the 400 but the guys at Golen are real nice guys they might be able to give you some insight.

Hope this helps

My bad, i just noticed this note was from 2008. You probably got your answers by now.

Honestly, you’re the first. Thanks Brendan!!! I’ll have to check them out. I have to be honest…..my wife has been calling you all sorts of names since I sent her to your garage. The 96 Impala is her absolute favorite car….very jealous!!!

Take Care and keep in touch,
Dawg
